Etowah City School
Etowah City School is said to be haunted by the ghost of a nearly forgotten basketball player who died here long ago. Back in those days, Etowah High School still existed. It was torn down long ago, but apparently the spirit migrated to Etowah City School, which now serves Kindergarten through grade 8.
According to the legend, during the 1940s, there was a young man who was the star of the basketball team. It was this young man's senior year, and he badly wanted to win a championship. He loved basketball so much that he had no idea what he would do after he graduated. Traveling to Europe or the Pacific to fight in World War II didn't appeal to him. All he wanted to do was play basketball. The entire basketball season had come down to one game. If Etowah High won, they advanced to the state tournament. If they lost, they went home. This young man played his heart out that night, perhaps the best game of his career. But sadly, it was not enough, and Etowah lost the very close game in the final seconds. After all these years, that young man is said to still play basketball late at night on the basketball court. Sometimes you can hear him dribbling, or the swish of the basketball as it goes through the net. Occasionally, you can spot him in his old Etowah High School Basketball jersey. Perhaps he'll stay there forever, playing the game he loved.
