Cedar Grove Cemetery
Cedar Grove Cemetery is located in Lebanon, TN, about thirty miles east of Nashville. It's a huge cemetery, and has many well known Tennesseans buried there, including U.S. Representative and Tennessee Governor William Bowen Campbell, Representative, Confederate Delegate, and Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Looney Caruthers, a host of Civil War soldiers, and many others.
An informant from Cumberland University told me an interesting story about this cemetery: "One night someone was telling a group of friends and myself a story about Cedar Grove Cemetery. He said that he was there one night when he saw some very strange lights. So we decided to go investigate. It was late at night, maybe around midnight, I'm not sure. We wandered into the cemetery. He were walking around when he saw some strange lights. They were white and purple. I don't know what they were, but I didn't stick around to find out. We hightailed it out of there!" Wise move, indeed. I haven't been able to find much more information about this alleged haunting. Several people I have talked too in Lebanon have said they've never heard or seen anything unusual. It's also been suggested that what that group saw was light from nearby houses reflecting off tombstones. Still, with several witnesses, one has to wonder if they could all be mistaken.
