Ghosts of Leiper's Fork

The rolling farmland and historic houses make Williamson County one of the most beautiful areas in Tennessee. Williamson County is home to Leiper's Fork, one of the oldest communities in Middle Tennessee. Located not far from Franklin and the historic Natchez Trace Parkway, Leiper's Fork was established in 1785 as Bentontown, and has also been known as Hillsboro. Leiper's Fork is a beautiful small town seemingly forgotten by time. A stroll through the historic district brings feelings of peace and pride to almost anyone. Leipers Fork takes one back to a simpler and better time, and allows the average person to escape the rat race of everyday life, if only for a few minutes.

Over its 218 year history, Leiper's Fork has accumulated its fair share of ghosts and spooks. The area around Leiper's Fork is said to be home to ghost light phenomenon. Ghost lights are mysterious ball of light which appear all over the world. The most famous are probably North Carolina's Brown Mountain Lights, but Tennessee also boasts a number of them as well, such as Chapel Hill Ghost Light, Cumberland Mountain Ghost Light, and several others. The ghost lights in the Leiper's Fork area bounce around on fields, through forests, and occasionally across the highway in and near the historic district. These balls of light are sometimes seen, and they do seem to have a history in the area.

Other ghosts have also been reported in the area. These ghosts are sometimes seen wearing nineteenth century style clothing on the side of the road. Usually they are seen after dark, but they are sometimes spotted during the day. Legend says that these are the spirits of early settlers in Williamson County, though they could be almost anybody.

If you ever get the chance, please visit Leiper's Fork. Even if you don't see any ghosts, it is well worth the trip. And if you do see any ghosts, it's an added bonus (or maybe not!).
