Black Aggie of Chattanooga Memorial Park
Memorial Park, located just off Memorial Drive in Chattanooga, TN is one of the largest cemeteries in the state. This cemetery dates back to the 1800s, but also has an extensive new sections as well. Located along the sides of a hill, this is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Hamilton County.
With so many people buried here, it's not surprising that this cemetery is also reportedly home to a "black aggie." Black Aggies are known as dark figures which usually (but not always) appear in cemeteries. Generally they do not seem to "think," instead they perform the same task over and over. The Black Aggie in this cemetery seems to appear in the arch pictured here. It's unclear who this black aggie is associated with, but many people have claimed to have seen it. One theory is that long ago, a man wanted an arch placed over his grave. Many people thought this was a silly wish, but he was insistent on it for some reason. When he died, his family decided to place the arch at the entrance to their family plot instead of over his grave. Upset, his ghost now spends as much time as possible under the arch. It should be noted that this is only a theory, and there is no clear evidence to support it. Nevertheless, it does appear the most logical answer to the question of the Chattanooga Black Aggie.
