Black Aggie Sighting at Old Gray Cemetery Location: Knoxville, TN My name is Erick [last name withheld], and I am a resident of Knoxville Tennessee. I noticed that on your 'Haunted Places' page, you have 'Old Gray Cemetery' listed. I met a fellow a while back who told me his personal account of being attacked by the "black aggie" of the cemetery. He even had photos of the thing, and they were pretty weird. It's been a while, so I may not have all the details right, but below is what he told me. This apparently took place some time in the early 90's. My friend Larry and a friend of his (I don't know his name, so I'll call him John) had just bought some beer. They had heard of the dark figure that is said to haunt Old Gray cemetery, so they decided to go check it out for themselves. It was late when the arrived at the cemetery. Larry got chills up his spine as they drove through the creepy, gothic gate, into the cemetery. They parked the car, and got out. John had brought his old Polaroid camera, in the hopes that they might actually see something. The two walked around for a bit, but saw nothing. They grew tired of the amateur ghost hunt, so they threw the camera back into the car, and commenced drinking their beer. It wasn't long before the two started acting disrespectfully, by cussing into the cold night air... "Hey you F$#@ING ghost, if you're there come out. We dare you!" Nothing happened. The two were convinced that the ghost stories that they heard were BS, so they were decided to leave. John jumped in the car, but Larry had to take care of some business first. He walked over to a nearby statue to take a leak. As he was walking, he tossed his beer bottle at a tombstone, and it shattered. Then he unzipped his pants, and started taking a leak on the statue. As he was standing there, he began to feel a freezing cold sensation all over his body. He looked up at the statue, and it saw a weird ooze coming out of it. He quickly zipped up his pants, and took a few steps back. A dark, translucent blob came out of the statue! Larry was paralyzed with fear. The thing was about six feet tall, and around three feet wide. The entity started moving towards Larry aggressively. Larry tripped over his own feet, and fell to the ground as he was trying to get away. He quickly got back on his feet, and started running for his life. His screams shattered the silence, and John leaped from the car to see what was happening. John couldn't believe his eyes. He saw his friend running towards him like a bat out of hell, and this strange, black blob right on his tale. Larry started yelling... "START THE CAR! START THE CAR!" John fell back into the car, and turned the ignition. The whole time his eyes were as wide as saucers, focused on the entity. Larry got to the car, and nearly jerked the door off the hinges trying to get it open. John began to scream, as the entity got within a few yards of the car. Larry jumped in the driver's seat, and threw the car into reverse. They sped out of the cemetery in reverse, and nearly crashed the car trying to escape. They stopped the car in the middle of Broadway, and shifted into drive. The entity had stopped, and was standing in the middle of the gate. John remembered his camera, and quickly went for it. He turned it on, and tried to snap a shot, but the flash wasn't ready. Larry was shaking like a leaf, and was about to speed away. John screamed... "WAIT!" Then finally the flash was ready, and he snapped a shot of the dark figure. As soon as he got a photo, Larry floored the gas petal, and they sped away. Larry and John are too scared to go within a mile of that cemetery now. I don't know how much, if any of their story is true, but that is what I was told. I've lost touch with Larry since then. He was really only a friend of a friend. I wish I knew how to get a hold of him, because I would love to get a copy of that picture. It really gave me the creeps. - Erick, Jan 2003 Bell Witch Encounter Location: Adams, TN My husband and I decided that one weekend a few years ago that we would venture up to Adams to check out the sites. I have always been interested in the Bell Witch, so we thought this would be a nice trip. Our oldest son who was about 6 years old at the time had stayed Saturday night with some family of ours in Jackson, TN. We told them what we had planned to do on Sunday and what time we would be by to pick him up. When we got to her house that Sunday around noon, there was no one there. We went to the Mall and spent some time shopping so that would give them time to get back to the house. About an hour and a half passed when we went back by there, and still no one. So we left a note on the door and told where we were going and that we would call later to check on everything (Needless to say, they apparently didn't want us to take our son on our little "trip"). Well, off to Adams we went. It was pretty much an uneventful ride up there except for the occasional pit stop for food and such. When we finally go to the town, I got goose bumps!! It just seemed erie to me. I really can't explain it. We thought it was very nice, but it was later in the afternoon by then and the museum was just closing so we missed out on that. We followed the signs to the infamous Bell Witch Cave. When we got there, it was open. My husband said we should go on the tour of the cave. I didn't want to do this because it was pretty close to dusk and I knew that it would probably be dark when the tour was over. But of course he talked me into it. There was another family, which consisted of two teenage girls, probably around 16 and 17, a younger boy, I would guess around 12 years old, and of course the Mom and Dad. I thought to myself, "Well, if they can do it, so can I!" Besides, it was the weekend before Halloween, so that just added to the excitement......In which I was really hoping that nothing at all would happen. We got with the tour guide, she was a really nice lady that owned most of the land that surrounded us. She talked and told stories all the way across the field and down the trail that led to the cave. When we got to the cave I thought that it ended there, but no, we went inside the cave. The most exciting thing that happened to all of us when we were in the cave is when she shined the light on the little bat that resides in there. We went on through the cave where we came to the Main Hall. She told the story about the "eagle rock" and showed us the strange rock formation on the ceiling of the cave that very much resembled a witch's face. By this time I was ready to go. We went back out of the cave, and of course it was dark!! My husband and I were behind the other family. When we started back out across the field, I heard something behind me in a strange voice say "momma, momma"! I stopped and looked behind me and there was nothing at all there! So I turned to start walking again and heard the same thing again, only this time it was louder and after "it" said that, I heard this loud cackling sound. I turned around once again and still nothing!!! When I turned back to start walking again, the three women in front of me had turned and was looking at me. I tried to play it off as if nothing had happened, but then they asked me if I had just said that! I told them no, then asked them what they were talking about. The three women had heard the same thing that I had heard!! Well, naturally, we started to freak out, and to make it worse none of the three males heard anything. They thought we were crazy! We went on, very quickly back to our vehicles and started to leave. I have always heard about "the Witch" foreseeing the future and many more stories about her, so I took this as an omen that something was wrong with my son. I tried to call on my cell phone and could not get a dial tone. So when we left the town of Adams, I stopped at a pay phone and called to check on him. My cousin said that he was fine. She wanted us to hurry and get to her house because they were having a show about the Bell Witch on the Discovery Channel and she wanted us to get there in time to see it. When we got back to Jackson to her house, I told her what had happened. She said that everything had been fine there all day and that Cody was exceptionally well behaved that day. My husband and I had been trying to have another baby for about three years and I had two miscarriages during the past year. My doctor told me that I may not ever be able to have another child, so I had come to accept this. Well, a couple of months later, I got pregnant again. I had no problems during this pregnancy and 9 months later, I had a beautiful baby boy, that is just as healthy as can be. You may think I am crazy, but I seriously think that the Bell Witch had something to do with this. And by hearing the words Momma, I think that it was her way of telling me that I was going to be a Mommy again! What do you think?? - Anita, Feb 2003 Wampus Cat Encounter Location: Near Bristol, TN I want to submit this account of a Wampus Cat sighting. My family lived off Sugar Hollow Rd. about 15 miles from Bristol, Tennessee. My brothers and I were exploring the wooded 7 acres of land my family lived on at the time (1979). We had taken our dog out as well. We had gotten to the deepest part of the wood and spotted a depression or crater in the ground. The Sun was directly overhead, but the canopy of the forest blocked out most of the light. We were sitting on the edge of the crater throwing rocks and looking for box turtles when our dog (a Doberman) stopped in his tracks and started with a low growling sound. We looked where the dog was staring and seen a dark figure standing about 30 yards away. The figure stood about 4 ft. tall and covered with a dark fur. It was standing on it's hind legs. My brother Scott shouldered his pellet gun and took a shot at the figure. We never knew if he hit it or not. But at that moment the creature turned it's head in our direction. It was then that our dog took off toward the house and we quickly followed. Just this past weekend I was telling my youngest brother the tale of the Wampus Cat. As I described the Wampus Cat he stopped me in mid sentence and reminded me of the story I just wrote. We never knew what the creature was called, for we never spoke a word to anyone about our sighting. But as I told the story my brother's eyes were wide with dawning recognition. "That must have been it", he said. And I agreed. - Robert, Apr 2003 Tales from UT-Martin Location: Martin, TN I have long been interested in the paranormal and, throughout my life, have had a multitude of experiences that I consider paranormal in nature. From 1972 through 1974, I lived in Clement Hall on the 4th floor, about 2 doors down from the community bath (same side of the hall). I was totally unaware until very recently that anyone else had had any experiences with the spirit in the dorm, as no one had ever talked about it while I was at UTM, at least not to me. My roommate and I were up late one night in our room talking (all the lights were on) when a black shape passed very quickly across the room, starting at the door, and went straight out the window. It was accompanied by some very negative feelings. We stayed awake until the sun came up, but it didn't come back. Nor did we ever see it again or feel anything out of the ordinary again. As I said, no one had ever mentioned a haunting before that event, and no one we told at the time had heard of anything, either. I just learned of the dorm's history while doing research on the web this past month. I was, to say the least, delighted to find some confirmation of our experience. The are also two houses in Martin that contained active spirits while I was a student there. One of them is on Poplar. Some of my theater friends lived there around 1973-75. One of my friends was awakened by a female apparition on several occasions. We found a grave stone in the basement (may or may not be related). The other house is 107 Ryan St. My roommate (same one) and I lived there in 1975-76. It had been converted into 3 apartments. We had the middle one which had 2 adjoining bedrooms upstairs. A wide variety of things happened while we were there, some of which were NOT good. After we had been there for a few months, we found out a woman had burned to death upstairs. There were still charred timbers in the closet of the smaller bedroom. A friend of ours had lived there right before we moved in and told us later that she moved out because of the spirit activity. - Sue, May 2003 Story from Sensabaugh Tunnel Location: Kingsport, TN On Monday, March 3, 2003, we decided to test a local urban legend. I'm was visiting from NC and decided to go and have some "cultural fun." Well, we back our truck into the tunnel and turned the engine off (we didn't know not to), and waited. We had two guys in the bed of the truck scared straight, and three of us in the truck. So I rolled my windows down and I saw a faint light out of the back end of the tunnel. So I turned around to find the two guys in my truck getting out and running for the opening on the other end. Then my truck kind of jolted to the side like someone pushed it or tried to get in or something. I was about go in my pants, no joke. So I went to turn my keys and my engine wouldn't start no noise no click, no nothing. The faint light kind of just lowered into the water and was gone, it resembled fog but not so faint and in a form like that. Then I tried my engine again, it started I pulled out let my friends jump back in the bed and took off. I don't know what happened and don't care because I was just happy to be gone. P.S. I'm never going back. - Kneo, May 2003 Back to Visitor Submitted Accounts - Main.
