Town Creek Road

Town Creek Road is located near Lenoir City, near the high school. This rather minor passageway is home to some strange legends.

Though as with most legends there is probably several versions of the story, the most enduring holds that many years ago, a baby was brutally murdered by his mother. A few months before, the baby's father had died tragically in a car wreck. This had driven the mother into deep depression, and she became very short tempered and impatient.

The young woman slipped further and further into the depths of insanity. She refused to care for her child, who she somehow partially blamed for her husband's death. The baby, obviously wanting to be loved, became irritated, and cried for hours. But this made no difference; the mother simply tried to ignore him.

Finally, the woman had a complete breakdown. While driving along Town Creek Road, she snapped. The cries of her child became too much for her to bear. She was near the Myers Road intersection when she stopped her car, took her baby outside, and smashed its head against some rocks that were jutting out of an embankment on the side of the road. Finally, the cries were silenced, or so the woman thought.

Or were they? According to legend, if you pass along this road late at night, you can still hear the poor baby's cries of agony, especially near the rocks where the young woman heinously murdered her child.
