Spirits of Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is regarded by many as one of the most haunted places in all of Scotland, and Edinburgh itself has been called the most haunted place in Europe, and perhaps the world. Given Edinburgh Castle's long and illustrious history, this is not surprising.

Edinburgh Castle was a military outpost which dates back to at least 600 AD. The castle was home to many Scottish kings, most notably Malcolm III, who ruled Scotland from 1058 until 1093. The grounds around the castle were the site of many wars between the Scots and the English, most prominently in 1296 and 1335. Now it stands as one of the most visited sites in all of Scotland, and attracts millions of tourists every year. It's also home to the famous Military Tattoo.

Given its many years of war and conquest, its not surprising that Edinburgh Castle is home to many ghosts and spirits. The most famous is the ghost of the headless drummer. This headless apparition is said to roam the castle grounds pounding his drum. He's been spotted for centuries on the castle grounds.

Another spirit which roams the grounds is a ghostly piper who marches around the castle. He has been seen and heard several times over the years.

These are only two of the many, many ghosts said to walk these grounds. If you ever visit Edinburgh, please visit Edinburgh Castle. You will not regret it.
