Ghosts of Woodlawn
There is something about Inns, particularly in the South, that attract ghosts. It's difficult to find an Inn that isn't home to at least one spirit. Woodlawn Bed and Breakfast, located at 110 Keith Lane in Athens, TN, is no exception.
Woodlawn Bed and Breakfast was established in the nineteenth century. During the Civil War, many soldiers stayed here, both Union and Confederate. The city of Athens was split almost evenly during the war on which side to support. Half remained loyal to the Union, and half supported the Confederacy. Thus, there was much debate and unrest among the locals. Perhaps some of this "spiritual residue" remains in the Inn, which housed so many young men from both sides. The identity of the ghost who haunts Woodlawn is not known. Many believe it to be a Civil War era spirit, even though there were no battles fought in the area. Perhaps a soldier died of natural causes here? Or perhaps a former owner still frequents the business? The spook who haunts the Inn makes its presence known by slamming doors, rocking chairs, and other strange sounds. Most people just take it in stride. The spirit is harmless. Perhaps it liked the Inn so much, it decided to retire here after death.
